Baker Point

Location: Frederick, MD

Size: 9 MW

Baker Point Solar is the first solar site in Maryland to be certified pollinator-friendly.

Baker Point Solar produces enough electricity annually to power the equivalent of more than 2,000 homes. National Geographic and Monumental Sports purchase the electricity, matched with renewable energy credits, through WGL Energy Services.

Baker Point is not a typical solar site. In addition to producing clean, renewable energy, the site hosts several bee hives which each produce 30 pounds of honey annually. Tended by a University of Maryland honeybee biologist, pollinators forage for nectar and pollen throughout the site.  Nine different species of native long-stemmed and short-growing flowers and warm-season grasses populate the land and coexist with this clean, quiet solar energy facility.

One Energy developed the property for this solar facility in 2014 and secured the interconnection rights, Power Purchase Agreements and Renewable Energy Credit Agreements to make this site a strong investment asset.
